Waste Atlas was presented in the five-day workshop (18th to 22nd of May ) “Advancing State of the Art Sustainable Waste Management in Southern Europe and Middle East”, organized by “The Earth Engineering Center (EEC)” of Columbia University in collaboration with WTERT-Greece/SYNERGIA and DEREE – The American College of Greece, in the latter’s facilities.

During the workshop Foundations and centers of innovation and technology, Universities and research centers as well as NGOs with environmental responsibilities, attended presentations on cutting-edge technologies for sustainable waste management and their potential application in the Southern Europe and Middle East region. Waste Atlas was presented, in the second day of the workshop, as a case study of a global waste management tool which can lead to sustainable waste management. Niki Mavropoulou, Waste Atlas Project Manager, highlighted the importance of waste data gathering for the achievement of sustainable waste management, since having access to current and projecting future data can assist waste managers’ efforts to deal with both local and global waste management challenges so as to provide the necessary tailor made solutions. In addition, further information was provided about Waste Atlas tools and features as well as a brief description of the two Waste Atlas’ Reports.
